Magnetometry with Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers in Diamond

This chapter covers magnetic sensing with nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defect centers in diamond. The NV center fundamentals are introduced and NV optically detected magnetic resonance techniques for dc and ac magnetic sensing are summarized. After reviewing some successful sensing applications, the advantages for using NV magnetometry, as well as some ongoing challenges, are enumerated.

A reservoir trap for antiprotons

2015

We have developed techniques to extract arbitrary fractions of antiprotons from an accumulated reservoir, and to inject them into a Penning-trap system for high-precision measurements. In our trap-system antiproton storage times > 1.08 years are estimated. The device is fail-safe against power-cuts of up to 10 hours. This makes our planned comparisons of the fundamental properties of protons and antiprotons independent from accelerator cycles, and will enable us to perform experiments during long accelerator shutdown periods when background magnetic noise is low. Characterization of electromagnetic noise suppression sheet for aerospace applications

Electromagnetic noise suppression sheets based on absorber materials can be an interesting solution to reduce or suppress noise emissions at a high-frequency region that may cause complex EMI problems. These materials usually are characterized by their permeability but their performance also depend on other factors such as dimension, geometry, thickness or noise source kind. Noise enhanced stability in magnetic systems

In this paper noise enhanced stability in magnetic systems is studied by both an Ising-type model and a Preisach–Arrhenius model as well as a dynamic Preisach model. It is shown that in one nonequilibrium Ising system noise enhanced stability occurs and that dynamic Preisach model has the capability to predict the occurrence of noise enhanced stability in magnetic systems. On the contrary, in a Preisach–Arrhenius model of a single quadrant magnetic material, noise enhanced stability is not detected.
